Tučepi

is a small town and municipality in the Split-Dalmatia County of Croatia

Is located on the Adriatic coast of Dalmatia
known as Makarska Riviera

about 5 km south of Makarska, population 1763 (2001). It is a popular tourist destination thanks to its glorious coastline, its opportunities for sports and its excellent accommodation.
Tucepi was first settled 4000 years ago by the Illyrians. Similar to other places in Makarska Riviera, until the earthquake of 1962, the majority of its inhabitants were living in scattered hamlets like Gornji Tučepi, Podpeč, Čoviči, Srida Sela, Šimiči, and Podstup at the lower foot of the mountain Biokovo. Since the 18th century their inhabitants began moving down to Tučepi-Kraj, now a 4-km long resort.
Now days this hamlets give you great taste of history and more and more locals are renovating the old stone houses to modern villas with swimming pools and a great view on the sea from above. In the summer there’s an interesting cultural program KaKultura happening in these hamlets, including theatre performances, exhibitions and concerts.

When to visit?

It is always nice to visit Tučepi! Even when it is raining, there's something magical in the possibility to watch raindrops fall to the surface of the sea and make circles on the water...
When it is windy; it's usually Bura people are afraid of! Bura is the powerful NE wind that is blowing in rushes ("reful"), and can blow away a big boat on a dry dock or a heavy truck driving on a highway! To experience Bura means to really experience sea and Dalmatia. People usually take vacation from high to low season, so come in Tučepi at:

High season (July, August)

if you like lots of sun and even more people on the beach. Prices are TOP HIGH

Middle season (June, September)

can be really beautiful, but you can also enjoy the rain, again how lucky you are :) good for outdoor activities. Prices are sensibly lower

Low season (April, May, October, November)

you still get lots of sun, and some rain (depends how lucky you are), but place is not that crowded. Perfect for outdoor activities!! Prices are moderate

Really low season (December, January, February, March)

if you want to talk stories about your trip :) You may freeze a bit - but you can also get full days of sun in the middle of winter; you may be blown away by the bura - but you can also enjoy the most peaceful walks beside the sea.

Where to go?

Tučepi has a great location where everything is close

...but you still avoid terrible crowds that tend to annoy you if you are located in bigger town such as Makarska. We recommend you to go every day somewhere, make the most of this location and of your vacation. Please do check for more info on our excursions page if you need more guidance, and you can always ask us; in person, on mobile, e-mail, facebook or web form.
